These terms are the agreement between you and CertTrigger. They are deliberately short: a document nobody reads protects nobody. Everything here applies to your use of certtrigger.com, our API and anything issued through them.
The short version: you decide what your certificates say and you are responsible for their truth. We build and run the machinery that signs them, publishes them and lets anyone check them. We do not vouch for what they claim.
1. What CertTrigger is
CertTrigger is infrastructure for issuing verifiable credentials. You design a certificate, we render it, sign it with a key belonging to your organisation, and publish a page where anyone can verify it without asking either of us.
We are not the awarding body. When a credential says an organisation certified something, that organisation is the issuer of record — not CertTrigger. We do not assess, validate or endorse any achievement, qualification or claim expressed in a credential you issue.
In these terms, "you" means the account holder and anyone acting under that account; "credential" means a certificate issued through the platform together with its verification page and signed documents; "recipient" means the person a credential is issued to.
2. Your account
You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract. If you open an account for an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to bind it, and these terms apply to that organisation.
You are responsible for your credentials and for everything done through your account, whether you authorised it or not. Tell us promptly at admin@certtrigger.com if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else. Enable two-factor authentication if your account can issue credentials.
You may invite others to your workspace and set what each may do. You remain responsible for their actions in it.
3. What you may and may not issue
You may use the platform to issue genuine credentials for achievements, participation, qualifications or recognition that actually happened, on behalf of an organisation entitled to award them.
You must not:
Issue a credential for something that was not earned, or that misstates what happened, when it happened, or who awarded it.
Impersonate an institution, company, public body or person, or use a name, logo, seal or mark you are not authorised to use.
Use the platform for anything unlawful, or to infringe someone else's rights.
Attempt to break, overload, probe or circumvent the platform's security, rate limits or access controls, or use it to distribute malware.
Resell or expose the platform as your own service without a written agreement with us.
Use another organisation's verified status, domain or issuer identity as your own.
Credential fraud is the one thing this platform exists to make harder. We may suspend or close an account we reasonably believe is issuing fraudulent credentials, immediately and without notice, and may revoke the credentials concerned. Where we can, we will tell you why.
4. Content and ownership
Your designs, logos, recipient data and the credentials you issue remain yours. You grant us only the licence needed to run the service: to store, process, render, sign and publish that content so credentials can be created, delivered and verified. That licence ends when the content is deleted, except for credentials already issued, which by design remain verifiable.
The platform, its software, design system, templates we supply and the CertTrigger name and marks remain ours. You may use the templates we provide to make your own certificates; you may not extract, resell or redistribute them as a template library.
You are responsible for having the rights to everything you upload — logos, signatures, images, fonts and text — and for the accuracy of what your credentials assert.
5. How credentials behave, and why it matters
Credentials are signed when issued and are not editable afterwards. This is what makes them checkable by someone who does not trust us, and it has consequences you should understand before issuing at scale.
A mistake is corrected by revoking the credential and issuing a new one. Revocation is published; the credential still resolves and reads as revoked, rather than disappearing.
Your organisation's public handle is embedded in every credential signed under it, so it cannot be changed once you have issued anything.
A credential you have delivered is in the recipient's hands. Revoking it does not remove the copy they already hold.
Recipient email addresses are never published on verification pages; identity is published as a salted hash.
6. Plans and payment
Plans, limits and prices are set out at certtrigger.com/pricing and may change. Paid plans are billed in advance and renew automatically for the same period until cancelled.
Cancel at any time from your billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for.
Fees already paid are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise, or where we have failed to provide the service and cannot put it right.
If a payment fails we may suspend paid features after notifying you. Credentials you have already issued remain verifiable.
We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice before they apply to your next renewal.
Prices exclude taxes, which you are responsible for where they apply.
7. Availability and support
We aim to keep the service running and verification available continuously, and we design for that — but except where a written agreement says otherwise, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION, OR THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
We do not guarantee that a credential you issue will be accepted or recognised by any employer, institution or authority. That is their decision, not ours.
We may change, suspend or withdraw features, and will give reasonable notice of changes that materially reduce what a paid plan provides.
8. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CERTTRIGGER AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, SUPPLIERS AND LICENSORS ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFIT, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE — REGARDLESS OF THE LEGAL THEORY AND EVEN IF WE WERE ADVISED THE LOSS WAS POSSIBLE.
IN ALL CASES, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF: (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS (USD $100).
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
9. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify CertTrigger, and its officers, employees and agents, against any claim, loss, liability, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the service, the credentials you issue, your breach of these terms or of any law, your infringement of anyone's rights, or anything done through your account.
10. Ending the agreement
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, that is used unlawfully, or where we are required to by law. For breaches that can be put right, we will normally give you notice and an opportunity to do so.
On closure we stop processing your data and delete it within 30 days, except where we must keep it by law. Credentials you have already issued keep resolving and keep verifying — removing them would break the promise made to every recipient holding one, which is not ours to break on your behalf.
Before closing an account, you can export your credential records and your issuer document.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will give at least 30 days' notice by email or in the product before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the new terms; if you do not, close your account before then. Every version is listed at the foot of this page.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws applicable at CertTrigger's principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the competent courts there have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from or relating to these terms or the service.
Before starting any proceedings, please contact us at admin@certtrigger.com. Most disputes are resolved faster in an email than anywhere else, and we will engage in good faith for at least 30 days.
Wherever you use the service from, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you.
13. General
These terms, with the privacy policy and any written agreement we sign with you, are the whole agreement between us.
If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
Not enforcing a right immediately does not waive it.
You may not transfer your rights under these terms without our written consent; we may transfer ours to a successor as part of a reorganisation or sale of the business.
Neither party is liable for failures caused by events genuinely beyond its control.
Where a written agreement we have signed with you conflicts with these terms, that agreement prevails.
